I have learned to avoid reading reviews before seeing a movie. No matter the opinion of the reviewer, something about the movie is spoiled.
As for the movie itself, I found the action scenes to be far too epileptic, making it impossible to see what was happening and enjoy. Other than that, the rest of the movie was fabulous to the max.
I'm with you on Abrams' over caffeinated camera work. Rather put me off of Cloverfield I'm afraid. Wobbly cam aside he did a really good job. I enjoyed the slightly less slick look with real pipes and bolts making up the inner workings of the ships.
I couldn't agree more. That's why I liked the show Enterprise so much more than previous ST shows. Not everything worked properly, and it all looked "real" and functional.
