Has it been 7 years already?!

Heroes - by John Piercy

This is a picture by a good friend of mine who happens to be a firefighter in this city of ours. I can imagine the feelings that he and his co-workers have every year on this anniversary. Sure it's a real risk when you're a fire fighter that you may run into one burning building too many, but the sheer magnitude of loss by the NYC emergency services teams was huge. Not to disregard the other victims but most of them didn't have a choice but be in the crossfire. These brave men and women, on the other hand, grabbed their gear and ran into burning wreckage of the twin towers to rescue whomever they could find only to be caught in crushing collapse of them.

To them, and any and all that serve us in our cities and towns I offer my thanks. It's because of your efforts that we can all sleep at night knowing someone is out there to watch over us and keep us safe.

I've said much of this before here and here so if you're looking for more reading then go ahead.

I miss you in blog land too. That house we took pictures of north of Mount Forest, on 6 is just a pile of rubble now. I was there recently and sad to see it fallen. The restaurant land in front had been bought (after being empty a long time). It's some other kind of business now. I expect people working on the renovations there could have seen the old ruin and gone over to finish the demolition. It could have gone without help but I don't really think it did. Happy Halloween. I bet you're having a lot of fun wtih the family. :)
