LIfe Is Just Peachy
Thanks to my chronic insomnia, for those that are wondering where in the hell I've gotten to, here's an update. I am still alive and kicking and am deeply mired in my annual toil to assist in bringing the Winona Peach Festival to life once again. This year's is made even more complicated for me by the impending arrival of the next installment to the Rainyclan....yes pending!!! (1 week overdue and counting......My poor wife-- Arrgh!!)
This is a direct result of learning not to answer the question "What are you doing this weekend?" with a better answer than "Not much." I made that mistake 15 years ago and now look!! In its 39th incarnation, this beastly festival is getting busier and busier every year. The people pile in and quest for the delectable foods, funky crafts, free music and of course, the midway. But first we have to transform the park into a place fit to have a pile of over 200,000 people wandering about. If you've ever wondered what it all looks like before it's all ready then here's your chance.
Ahhh the glorious midway, with the carnies, I truly feel that I belong.
One of the many shelters in place for our festival folk to hide beneath.
The tents go up and the lanes are marked, now all we need is a crowd.
We've even set up a feeding zone for the hungry masses
Since I'm lucky enough to have had access to equipment to take some seriously elevated pictures, I've also been able to take a pretty sunset shot over the trees in the park.

Nice pictures, I love the sunset one! So they roped you in again, huh? Hope you have fun with it. I feel sorry for your poor wife, at a week overdue, anytime would be the right time!
Your poor wife is right, I hope the little guy makes an appearence soon, Summer and being that pregnant is not a fun thing to be. S
"Move out to the country, gonna eat me a lot of peaches..." lol
RainyPete: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. If she gets anymore pregnant, think of the crankiness, the hormones, the need for ice cream. Will the Mounties help out in a situation like this? I'd call it an emergency if I were 10 months pregnant in August. So should they.
Enjoy the festival (to the extent you are permitted to do so).
I knew there must be someone to put those things together. :)
It sounds like fun...our festivals are only October-March because if you go out in the summer you end up frying to death. And a festival with people lying in piles due to extreme heat is not a fun one.
I can't wait until fall.
Your poor wife!! Although I must admit they are easier to take care of IN the womb than OUT. That is, if you like to sleep. :)
I knew I liked you for a reason. I was a teenage carny :)
Great photo.Cant wait to hear about the new additions arrival.Which hopefully will be soon for your wifes sake.
I was wondering how the heck you got such high-view-point shots! Then, in the very last paragraph, the mystery is revealed.
Equipment!
Hey, very nice sunset picture! Good luck with the Festival!
I love the last picture. Thanks for sharing!
yes, i was overdue with twins--every day feels like a week.
i should have known you were a carny!
Cool Sunset!
Wow, you Canadian's seem to have the BEST parties...I wanna be there! I love all those carnivals etc...although judging by the pics, the ones I've attended are so much smaller lol
Good luck to Mrs Rainy!
I was wondering if your baby had arrived Good Luck to you all.
Your fair sounds/looks really good. Unfortunately I am a bit too far away to visit.
Have a good day
I LOVE festivals!!! And beautiful sunsets too...what more could you want (besides the appearance of a certain youngin', that is...:)
i wouldn't mind going there this weekend. looks like a great place to spend the weekend.
Outdoor festivals are the best. Except in the winter..
I LOVE that sunset picture!!!!
I would also love to go to the peach festival, but I don't have enough money for gas to get around the block, let alone for a six hour round trip drive. (pout)
you know? I'm ashamed to say, I still haven't ever gone! I want to, I hear the ice cream, and of course the pie, is to die for
That looks like it'll be a lot of fun. We need more festivals around here.
