One musical weekend

Like Batman and Robin they are a dynamic duo......only without the abiguous sexuality

So when your weekend is coming to an end and your have to work the net day the smartest thing to do is to hit the sack and get some rest right? Not bloody likely! Last Sunday I had a chance to slide out to Guelph and catch some great tunes. I dragged the Jodster (actually, since he drove I guess he dragged me) out to the Cornerstone Cafe in Guelph. As a quick aside, if you ever get out there try the anitijitos, mmmmmmmmmm antijitos…

Sorry. Got a little distracted there. The show was a joint gig with the ever enjoyable Mike Evin and his current touring mate David Celia. The end result was some of the best piano and guitar playing I have ever seen. Combined with their excellent singing, the end product was an amazing and entertaining show. To know that they had only played together in one previous show was a surprise as it seemed like they have been touring for years.

The two have such a genuine and honest feel to their music. Being able to write songs about things that you would never expect certainly adds to their appeal. Blasting through their own material as well as covering some other tunes as well they kept the crowd entertained right through the whole set. At the end of it all we were sorry to see them go, but then again the staff at the Cornerstone do need to sleep sometime right?

Keep your eyes on both of their web sites as they are both releasing albums in the near future. I had a chance to grab a copy of David’s upcoming album This Isn’t Here and it is awesome. Mike’s next disc Let's Slow It Down will be out shortly and having heard the tunes on it, it is a great collection as well. If you get a chance, you should check out their tour schedules and see if they are coming to a gig near you as they are worth every penny will cost to see them , which is typically only a couple of bucks anyhow.
For the observant among you, you'll notice that these two are wearing the same shirt in some of the pics. This is because Mike is as smooth a talker as he is a singer and managed to deftly talk David out of his shirt while on stage. Granted they changed off stage as it is a g-rated show, but still.....nice going Mike!! (and yes.....it goes nicely with your piano)

These pics are taken over two shows as well. The Friday night show was also shared with the talented Carrie Catherine who happened to be in Hamilton the same nighta st he boys as she was recording her new album as well. Being poverty stricken at the time I was unable to grab her albums at the gig but they are currently on their way to me thanks to the glory of the postal service (the people and not the band)

In that case I hope your postal service works better than ours... or you will have to do without the CD's for much much longer...
